How To: Crochet the Even Moss Stitch

Updated: Oct 18, 2019

If you've been around for awhile, you know that I love everything and anything with tons of squishy texture!

In this "how to" you'll learn how to crochet the Even Moss Stitch; Which can help you with the Hartley Headband (just released to my Etsy shop, you can find the pattern here!)

For this example, I used Lion Brand Thick & Quick and a 9mm hook. If you're here to just learn the stitch, feel free to use any size hook and yarn you desire. However, if you're here to see more in-depth of the stitch before starting your Hartley Headband, then go ahead and grab the same tools I did to practice before moving on to the pattern.

If you're ready, let's get started!

Step 1: Start by ch 11 (or any odd amount).

Step 2: In the second ch from your hook, sl. In the following ch hdc then sl st in the next. Repeat the pattern of *sl, hdc* until you reach the end of your row. (You should end your row with a hdc st). Turn your work.

Here's how it should look nearing the end of your row:

Step 3: Ch 1 and *sl then hdc* across as you did in the second step. Turn your work. (Little hint: You will be sl st into the hdc from the previous row and hdc into the sl sts!)

Continue with step 3 until your project is however long you'd like.

That's it! This stitch is super easy but gives tons of lovely texture behind it.

If you'd like work this texture stitch into a pattern, you can do so by checking out the Hartley Headband pattern up in the shop!

If you tried out this stitch or the Hartley Headband, please feel free to share them with me on Instagram or Facebook and tag @MIHandmadeHome.
