Sunburst Granny Square // FREE Crochet Pattern

Updated: Aug 9, 2019

Lately I've been totally obsessed with anything earthy, natural and that resembles all the house plants that keep appearing in my house. (Only one has died out of four; Progress over last year!)

I've been revisiting some of my favorite granny squares recently, and the Sunburst Granny Square was one that caught my eye as it totally fits in with my love for anything that resembles a flower. Maybe in the hopes of bringing some sun with this rainy Michigan weather we've had for the start of our Summer.

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook (which you totally should; I post giveaways, showcase upcoming patterns and you can see what I'm up to during the week) you'll see that I recently designed the Sunburst Cross-body Bag. Which entails Sunburst Granny squares, seamless stitched together to create a Summery and floral bag perfect for the warm weather ahead. (Click here a sneak peak of the bag I posted on Instagram!)

This would be part one of two blog posts you could say. Here you can see a step-by-step of how to crochet a Sunburst Granny Square, that way when the Sunburst Crossbody bag blog post goes live, you'll be pro at these little squares!

You'll need an H 5.5mm crochet hook and any worsted (4) weighted yarn.

Step 1: Ch 5, sl st together to form a ring.

Step 2: Ch 3 (this will count as our first dc st) then dc 15 more around the ring. Sl st to the top ch once complete. You should have 16 total dc, including the ch 3.

Step 3: Ch 2, puff stitch in each dc stitch around. Then sl st together To puff st, yarn over and insert your hook in the st and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull up another loop, yarn over (3times total), then pull through all 7 loops on your hook, ending with a sc.

Step 4: Ch 2, yarn over and insert hook in the st and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, repeat this 4 times. End by pulling though all 5 loops on your hook and ch 2. Repeat this by making cluster stitch in each ch 1 space from the previous row.

Step 5: Ch 4, counts as first trcr, 2 trcr in the same space. Then 3 dc in the next ch 2 space,

3 hdc in the next ch 2 space, 3 dc, 3 trcr, ch 3 ,3 trcr in the next ch 2 space.

Continue the pattern of 3 dc ,3 hdc ,3 dc in the next ch 2 spaces and 3 trcr,ch 3, 3 trcr in the next ch 2 sp. Sl st together.

Once you are done, weave in your ends and you have completed your first Sunburst Granny Square!

Be sure you check back to the blog for the release of the FREE Sunburst Crossbody bag, and be sure to follow me on Instagram and Facebook so you don't miss the release! Because I mean, look at this beauty!
