Happy 4th of July to all my fellow Americans!
As I was creating this bow to wear at our cookout we're having today, I thought it would be a great pattern to share with you all as well. I mean, I did think for a second if being 25 years old was "too" old to wear a bow. Obviously, I overcame that quick because this is just too stinkin' cute.
I know what you're thinking, "Lauren, I'm not American; I'm not digging the red, white and blue." Well, this pattern falls in with the trend of stripes this summer and would be adorable and trendy with any colors of your choosing. You could even opt out to use just two colors; Endless opportunities, up to you!
This pattern works up rather quick and would be super cute to match with your daughter, as well (or how about two for pig tails?!) See below for all you need for this quick, and festive bow.
The breakdown:
- An H 5mm hook
- Worsted (4) yarn in red, white and blue (or which colors you many desire); Less then 20 yards per color.
- One hair tie.
- One stitch marker.
-Yarn needle to weave in your ends.
Total approximate size before cinching measures 5.5" across x 4" high.
Now let's get started!
Row 1: (With our red) ch 9, in the next st from our hook, hdc, then hdc 7 more across. (8)
Row 2: (Attach our white) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 3: (Attach our blue) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 4: (Attach our red) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 5: (Attach our white) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 6: (Attach our blue) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 7: (Attach our red) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 8: (Attach our white) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 9: (Attach our blue) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 10: (Attach our red) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 11: (Attach our white) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 12: (Attach our blue) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
Row 13: (Attach our red) ch 2, hdc 8 across.
At this point, place your one stitch marker in the loop our hook is currently in, and grab your yarn needle to snip off and weave in your loose ends. The stitch marker will hold our place and ensure we don't lose any stitches.
To finish off: Ch 1 and sc around the outside to create a finished edge. You should have a total of 42 stitches around the outside. 13 on the top and bottom, then 8 on each side. Finish off and weave in your last ends.
To attached to your pony tail holder and cinch together: Take some red yarn and with your yarn needle, pinch together the center and place your needle from the top pulling straight down. Repeat this two more times. Then take your pony tail holder and string it on the yarn before you pull it through the center one last time. This will then secure the pony tail holder to your bow.
That's all there is to it!
I want to see YOUR patriotic bows (or cute stripe bows, whichever you create) on Instagram! Make sure to tag me in your creations, I'd love to see what you create and share your creations!
Have a happy and safe holiday weekend lovelies!
xo,
Lauren
** Full disclosure, did you picture where I messed up my own colors above? OOPS.
It happens, I always state I'm not perfect and I'll rock my perfectly imperfect bow, as I bet not many even caught it before I realized it after I pressed "publish". It happens, and still totally rocking it this 4th of July!**
