The Summer Breeze Crop Tank // FREE Crochet Pattern

Updated: Jul 19, 2019

It's hard for me to believe that I've been designing and creating crochet patterns for years, yet this is my first tank top pattern. I guess it's to say that every has their own style about how they make and create. My style has always been more towards smaller items with tons of details.

For the Summer Breeze Crop Tank I wanted something that was simple, yet textured and can be paired or layered however you may envision.

If you're looking to purchase the PDF version of this pattern to add to your library of patterns, you can purchase the PDF copy/printable version right here in my Etsy shop!

Now let's get to it - Did I mention this works up rather quick?! Those are my favorite kind of patterns!

The breakdown (aka what supplies you'll be needing!):

- An H 5mm Hook

- Any Worsted (4) Yarn (I used Hobby Lobby's 'I Love This Yarn' in Gold. See below in sizing for the exact yardage for your size you're creating!)

- Stitch Markers

- Measuring Tape

- Yarn Needle

Optional: Blocking Mat

Abbreviations:

Sc - Single Crochet

Hdc - Half Double Crochet

HdcBl - Half Double in the Back Loops

Hdc2Tog - Half Double Crochet 2 Together

Sl St - Slip Stitch

Ch - Chain

Sizing: This pattern is written for an XS, which measures 16" across when laid flat.

Sizes: (XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL)

Yardage: (XS 250, S 350, M 450, L 550, XL 650, 2XL 750, 3XL 850, 4XL 950)

Gauge swatch: 4" wide x 4" high = 10 hdc across by 10 hdc high.

Measurements: (This is in US measurements " = inches)

XS - 16" across

S - 18" across

M - 20" across

L - 22" across

XL - 24" across

2XL - 26" across

3Xl - 28" across

4xl - 30" across

When you are working this pattern in any other size than written, simply adjustment your foundation to the size you would like to make. For example if you wanted to make an XL, you would make your band to measure 24" across.

Since this is a crop tank, all sizes should measure roughly the same for height, measuring 15" high in the front and 10" high in the back (not including the height of the straps!)

Please be advised you an block your tank, as well and when the tank is worn/washed may alter the sizing from after it's fresh off your hook.

P H E W. Now that we got all the math out of the way, let's get started!

Pattern:

We will start by making the bottom band, now remember if you are making any other size than for the written size of XS you are just going to make you band length how ling is indicated above!

Bottom Band (for front and back panel):

Foundation: Ch 9, in the second ch from the hook, hdc. Hdc 8 total across. Ch 2, turn.

Row 2: HdcBl across. Ch 2, turn. (8)

Repeat this until your band reaches 16".

(Keep going if you are making another size besides an XS. Make you band as your above size! Keep in mind we will be making two bottom bands, one for the front and one for the back.)

Top of the Tank (Front Panel):

Foundation: Ch 1, sc in the tops of each hdc from the bottom band. Ch 2, turn.

Row 2: Hdc into each st across, ch 2 and turn your work.

Row 3-20: Repeat Row 2.

** This is where we will start our decrease for the top triangles of our tank.

Row 21: Hdc2Tog, then hdc until you reach half of the distance in from your tank, (for the XS you will hdc 8") in the last two st's hdc2tog. Ch 2, turn your work.

Row 22: Hdc 2 tog, hdc across, when you reach the last two st's, hdc2tog. Ch 2.

Row 23-32: Continue to repeat hdc2tog, hdc across, when you reach the last two st's, hdc2tog. Ch2.

**This will start our first strap.

Row 33: (You should now have 4 hdc left) Hdc 4 across. Ch 2, turn.

Continue to hdc 4 across. Ch 2, turn. Until your strap reaches 16". (If you're working another size than an XS, simply take the wide length and make that your straps. For example, if you're making an XL size you would make your straps 24" long. Of course you can always make them longer or short on your preference. Simply increase or decrease to you choosing!)

Now, all we need to do is add our second triangle and strap to finish up the top. Go back to Row 21 and attach your yarn ch 2 and work your second triangle and strap.

Top of the Tank (Back Panel):

Once you have made another band for the back of your tank (follow the same band instructions for the front), you can start your back panel.

Foundation: Ch 1, sc in the tops of each hdc from the bottom band. Ch 2, turn.

Row 2: Hdc into each st across, ch 2 and turn your work.

Row 3-18: Repeat Row 2.

Row 19: Sl st into each st across.

It's time to stitch it all together!

Start by having your tank inside out, with your stitch markers place one into each of the four corners. With your yarn needle simply stitch from top to bottom on each side,

To attach your straps, you can criss-cross them on the back as I did. You can place them whenever you want, or don't even have to cross them if you don't want! For mine, I placed the straps 5.5" in from each side, crossed them and pinned them down. With your tank still being inside out, stitch the straps down while only going into the back loops of the tank. That way this will ensure a more seamless look.

Once you are done, it's time to weave in the ends, flip it to the correct side and you're done!
